In January 2025, the Puppet open-source community launched OpenVox — a community-driven fork of Puppet designed to ensure the future of open-source configuration management remains in the hands of its users and contributors.
What is OpenVox?
OpenVox is a direct continuation of the Puppet open-source project, maintained by the Vox Pupuli community and supported by organizations and individuals who have built their infrastructure automation on Puppet's proven foundations. It preserves full compatibility with existing Puppet modules, manifests, and workflows while opening the door to community-driven innovation.
Why OpenVox?
Changes in Puppet's corporate direction and licensing model created uncertainty for the open-source community. OpenVox ensures:

Getting Started
If you're already running Puppet Community edition, migrating to OpenVox is straightforward. The OpenVox packages are available from the project's repositories, and the transition is designed to be as seamless as possible.
For new installations, OpenVox provides packages for all major Linux distributions. The configuration and usage patterns are identical to what you already know from Puppet.
