Three instructor-led classes that take a team from running its first agent to designing and migrating a production estate.
OpenVox is the community-maintained fork of Puppet, built and released by the OpenVox community under Vox Pupuli. Teams moving off Puppet Enterprise, or off an ageing Puppet 6/7 install, keep their skills, but they also inherit habits that break under OpenVox 8: legacy facts, Hiera 3 functions, code edited on the server, autosign left on.
These classes are taught by Jerald Sheets, Founder & CEO of S & S Consulting Group: 35+ years in IT and a Puppet Certified Professional (2014, 2018, 2019). They are built from the patterns we use on client estates, with product facts taken from the official OpenVox documentation. Roughly half of every class is hands-on lab time.
Each class builds on the one before. Experienced students can skip ahead by passing a short, hands-on placement check.
For the people who run OpenVox day to day: install an agent, write safe manifests, join a server, read a report, and fix a failed run without making it worse.

Class details →For the person who designs the estate, the migration, and the 3 a.m. restore.

Class sizes get smaller at each level because there is more hands-on and scenario work. Every class awards a certificate of completion; a formal certification program is planned.
Regional public classes (on-site): our preferred format. Open-enrollment classes held in person in a regional location, with participants from many companies learning side by side on a shared lab estate.
Private corporate classes (on-site): one class, or the full series, for a single company, taught at your location. The customer covers instructor travel, quoted or at standard rates.
Live remote: also available. A virtual instructor-led class with a shared lab estate students reach over SSH.
Pricing: regional public classes are priced per student: User $2,500, Journeyman $2,500, Architect $2,750, with a minimum of 5 students to run a class. A private corporate class for a single company is $16,500 per class week, minimum 5 students, and the customer covers instructor travel. Full series: we recommend running the three classes as three consecutive weeks, but you can break them up and schedule each class separately. Class dates: ask us.

Tell us how many people, where they are today, and what you need them to own afterwards. We will tell you which class fits and what it takes to run it for your team.
